City of Oakland Cannabis Paid Internship Program
The initiative is funded by the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development and the City of Oakland.
Overview
The City of Oakland Cannabis Workforce and On-The-Job Training Initiative provides participants with an opportunity to earn a living wage while enhancing their competitiveness in the legal cannabis job market through a comprehensive academic and on-the-job training program. The 8-week academic program provides a broad overview of the cannabis industry, and allows students to explore and pursue a 10-week paid internship at a local Oakland cannabis company. All applicants must be equity-eligible to participate in this special training program.

Academic Training provided by Merritt College.
AT NO COST TO YOU!
Participants do not incur any costs for this training program. All coursework, textbooks, and certifications will be provided free of charge. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from industry guest speakers and participate in a behind-the-scenes field trip. Those focusing on the manufacturing pathway can also attain ServSafe certification at no additional cost.
Academic Training
8 weeks
3 hours/week of virtual classroom instruction
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00PM to 8:00PM
5 hours/week outside of class
Support services provided to increase retention and success
Internship Training
10-week paid internship
Up to $21.28/hour
Work with a legal cannabis operator within the City of Oakland
Up to 40 hours/week
Develop career skills to pursue long-term employment
